Why am I not surprised?
A committee of CAL's academic senate has approved UC Berkeley opening a satellite branch of the University in Saudi Arabia. On the same campus that disallows the student store to sell certain clothing or Nike products because they are allegedly produced in sweat shops overseas, sees no problem in giving its name to the medieval feudal kingdom of Saudi Arabia that still practives slavery, misogyny, child abuse, religious intolerance and other human rights violations (not to mention not allowing Jews inside the country).Currently, I'm trying to find out who was on the academic committee because I'll bet it is made up of Arab professors from UC Berkeley's Center for Middle East Studies (also funded by the Saudis).
More on this later, but check out our petition at www.DAFKA.org that requires unviersities in the US to divest from and not accept any money from the Evil Kingdom.
